Bill discussing how he met and introduced Dick Latvala to the band. I never knew this until today when my friend sent this to me:

Great story, have you heard the one where Larry Bird and the Celtics go to their first GD show in Worcester
I was fortunate to be in Worcester on 11/5/85. Not sure if it was Larry’s first show. The band opened the Second Set by singing Bill Happy Birthday, then launching into Shakedown Street. Seeing Larry and some other really tall people on the side of the stage was something I’ll never forget. As a Knicks fan it was a bit disconcerting, but it was a really swell, totally kick ass show. Highlights included a Supplication Jam > Playin’ Reprise, Tom Thumb’s Blues out of Space and a First Set Kansas City.

How about the poor Celtics player whose wife wouldn't let him go to the show. My friend Jenny said she felt so bad for him.
Danny Ainge. A fan favorite in these parts. As GM, he's also responsible for Kevin Garnet and Ray Allen coming to Boston and winning rings in 09. Additionaly, he's responsible for this current team in the Finals as he swung all the trades resulting in the high draft picks, grabbing Tatum and Brown. Plus he drafted Marcus Smart which later resulted in a 3 way trade bringing in Holiday and Porzingas. Us fans are very fortunate he chose to play for the Celtics rather than for the Blue Jays...who also drafted him.

But Danny...really...letting your wife dictate the terms of a Grateful Dead show. Yikes. That would be the day

At the excellent suggestion of KEZHEAD, this thread will be permanently housed in the With Us in Spirit forum. I'll move it in a couple of days. Also, I merged the two Bill passing threads so all of the posts are in this one thread.

Thanks to everyone for sharing their thoughts and memories of Bill, this makes for a great tribute. :sunshine :bigheart

Remember going to his "liquor store" on the way to the '87 Ventura shows. A treasure trove of musical and sporting props. He really didn't miss a beat. Gonna miss you big Red. Post Jerry down low, he can't jump!

I remember hanging out with big Bill, and Father Guido Sarducci, at the soundboard prior to the '85- '86 New Years show. Never had such a good time. Funny characters, indeed. Your legend proceeds you Bill. Thanks, big Red✌️
