Meet Oteil!

My girlfriend and I have been wanting to get a puppy for years, but there always seemed to be some future event preventing that from happening. We both realized there'd likely never be a better time to get one than right now. We both normally have busy schedules but I'm currently out of work and she's working from home. We've had him for six days now and we're able to give our full attention to the puppy. By the time things are busy again (hopefully ), he'll no longer need all the attention and care a puppy needs. He's a Basenji, which is a hound that originates from the African continent. There are depictions of and sculptures of Basenji's in ancient Egyptian culture that date back to the 1900s of BC. We've gone with the name Oteil for him. The reason being that I fucking love Oteil Burbridge, plus Oteil means wanderer/explorer in Egyptian. Kind of the perfect name if you ask me . He certainly will be wandering and exploring considering that he's a hunting dog.

Does he sense all the bad craziness around?

Haha I wish I could be like him and have no idea what's happening in the world. I do worry a bit about what's going on and how it will effect his socialization process. He's hardly met any humans or dogs yet because anytime there's someone ahead of us on the sidewalk they either cross the street or make sure to stay more than six feet away when we pass and not look at us. It's important for him to meet other dogs and humans while he's still a puppy so that he doesn't grow up to be one of those mean dogs that lashes when passed by on walks.
