What's your feeling on the Pats? Watch out for a potential 'canes resurgence. Always great to see an SEC school bite the dust. Best of luck with the 'phins campaign.

I retract my statement above about Aaron
I didn’t want him to get hurt
The Dolphins certainly did make a statement to the rest of the AFC!

Speaking of "hackey" season, it's not just baseball that can be taken as a metaphor for life.strangerinboulder wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 9:34 pm
It's always "hackey" season. Uncle Joe and the Avs have a huge chip on their shoulders, after their on and off ice humiliation last spring. Made some great acquisitions during the off season. The boys are back in town!?
I remember being stuck in a big airport while my flight was delayed by weather. So I sidled into the airport lounge and had a few shots of whiskey to kill the time. The delay seemed to go on and on and I wondered how long we were going to be stuck there. The bartender asked me if I wanted another shot after what seemed like hours. I don't don't know how many shots I had taken and hummed and hawed a bit.
I thought, "well I may not have to drive to the plane but I still have to walk to the plane."
Then I remembered something Wayne Gretzky had said years before. "You don't score on 100% of the shots you don't take."
Truer words ......
Words to live by!
I'll look forward to the Avs coming to town this year

Should be fun

I never like seeing anyone getting hurt, but he certainly wore out his welcome in my books for about the last five or six seasons. As Sheryl Crow would say, maybe a change will do you good. You're not in the land of cheese and bowling anymore. Best of luck, Berkeley boy.

Always top shelf, both hockey and liquor. The aforementioned and Joe Sakic still had the best wrist shots ever. The flight attendants start looking good, or better!? Speaking of which. How many people (myself included), were able to see Garcia, Bird, Gretzky, and that annoying lil' Brady chap at their apex. And my apologies to Sue. Perhaps in another century, maybe, but highly unlikely.I'llflyaway wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 10:03 pmSpeaking of "hackey" season, it's not just baseball that can be taken as a metaphor for life.strangerinboulder wrote: ↑Sun Sep 10, 2023 9:34 pm

Ah, just a stupid hockey joke I stole from the CBC. I personalized a bit to make a story.strangerinboulder wrote: ↑Mon Sep 11, 2023 10:57 pm

The only one of those I've seen is Gretzky back when the Oilers were a dynasty.. Sakic was an amazing player though. Right up there.
When Vancouver first joined the league my step-fathers sales firm got season tickets right on top of the visitors bench in the old Pacific Coliseum. He used to draw 4 or 5 games a year. By the time I was 13, I'd seen Bobby Orr, Phil Esposito and Derek Sanderson; Guy Lafleur, Henri Richard and Ken Dryden; Gordie Howe, Dave Keon, Bobby Clarke and the Broad St. Bullies oh, and the Canucks.
Hockey was a lot different back then.
The only NFL I've seen is the Seahawks in the old Kingdome and the Raiders once in the LA Coliseum which was an experience. Pretty cool though they won the SB that year and the Olympics were in LA.
I don't put my life on hold waiting. The Canucks have been a tortured franchise most of their existence, especially in the Bettman era but I would like to see them win just one cup before I go to meet my reward. I commiserate with Sue completely.
(sorry for calling your team the kittens, btw. I had no idea you where you were from, lol. If the Hawks play like they did in that second half, the Lions are going to tear them to peices next week)

I guess. I'm pretty political by nature but I've managed to keep my opinions and concerns over what is going on to myself here for the most part - of which I'm kind of proud. Inappropriate for this forum and I have no desire to piss off the Deadheads. If that happens, you know.....I'llgetupandflyaway....strangerinboulder wrote: ↑Tue Sep 12, 2023 12:32 am

I played a lot of sports when I was a kid so I love the competition but I'm pretty ambivalent about the big business of sport the way it has evolved today. Still have some brand loyalty to a couple of the logos though

I wanna be distracted

This totally sucks!!
I didn’t want Aaron to get hurt
An MRI on Tuesday confirmed that Rodgers sustained a torn Achilles in the New York Jets’ 22-16 overtime win against the Buffalo Bills on Monday night, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. That ends Rodgers’ first season with the Jets after just one game.
