Original Music (And Not So Original)

Post by Tone Weaver » Wed Apr 03, 2019 1:11 pm

For you beatniks and fans of modern jazz, (both of you ;) ) I just uploaded some of my father’s original music. The live quartet jam is followed by his original multi-track overdubs, plus commentary. You'll be some of the first people in decades to hear this.

For you rocker/blues types, I offer a couple youtube videos of my band:
On Guitar:

Karmic Haze
All Along the Watchtower

I’m No Angel

On Bass:

The Forty-two:
Infernetto Blues

Since posting my father's music I've learned a bit of history behind it.

He plays clarinet and alto sax with a quartet featuring his student Don Bays on piano, and the bass player from Don's college band.

Turns out the bass player for the 1968 session was Andy Stein, of Commander Cody and the Lost Planet Airmen. He was later a regular on Prairie Home Companion and played with Wynton Marsalis's Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra.

He now owns my father's old clarinet. A worthy heir, for sure.

Here's Stein with Tichy at the Hollywood Bowl 7/21/74, opening for the Grateful Dead, and playing through the Wall of Sound.

I’ve been playing with a couple buds of mine, trying to gain some traction locally! Here’s a link to a 3 minute clip I put together of us playing plus some visuals;)

I can provide more if anyone is interested! Mostly google drive links, but imma get some good cuts together soon and upload to YouTube.

I’m in the process of organizing and purging a lot of my stuff since I’m moving soon, and I feel a sense of pressure from myself to archive jams I’ve been apart of and music I’ve played through YouTube. There’s lots of not so good stuff, with uneven mixes or the worst, clipping, but through the mess, there are jewels awaiting to be discovered:)
Phantom Wingo: more of a southern rock, jam feel. Wharf Rat awaits, as well as a great original tune towards the end.
Lady Creation: my first real musical venture with my good friends from school. Real weird kinda nuanced stuff, all instrumental.
Pan: most recent thing, drummer from LC with guitarist Alex Bazemore, and occasionally Demetri Chrissos on keys. Real Dead jammy and trippy stuff.

I am posting this from mobile at a bar, and waiting for the local groove band Voodoo Soup starts up. So apologies if it doesn’t quite translate to the desktop/computer experience. Just wanted to get these jams out to people who might appreciate it! Dig it
