Download any show from Archive

Post by Shroomopotamus » Thu Jun 14, 2018 1:52 pm

I don't know if there's a well known way of doing this already. I've looked into it in the past and found nothing that worked.

HOWEVER
I recently got a program for completely unrelated reasons that does the trick.

JDownloader2 is the answer.
It's a program you download and install on your computer and you copy and paste a link into it and it will download files from that page.
It is a little inconvenient in comparison to your ordinary download, but only takes some mild organizing and you get whatever it is your heart desires.
JDownloader is a free, open-source download management tool with a huge community of developers that makes downloading as easy and fast as it should be. Users can start, stop or pause downloads, set bandwith limitations, auto-extract archives and much more. It's an easy-to-extend framework that can save hours of your valuable time every day!
So, the way archive archives music is it has various files for every tune of every show.
So, every show of course has a bunch of tunes. These tunes have their own folders with a few files. The mp3, the flac file, an image file and a couple other things related to it organized together.
There will also be folders completely unnecessary to you.
So basically you just have to dig through a bunch of folders and drag and drop the files you actually want into your own organized folder.
Only takes a few minutes.
It's not complicated. Do it once and you should have a good feel for how to do it quick next time.

Alright so I've been messing around with this trying to figure out how to get it to work properly
So here's a mini guide

Say you want any ole show
So you take the show link
www.archive.org/anyoleshow
Putting in just that will find nothing in JDownloader for the special ones
But rather than putting in that URL
Click the first tune and the URL will slightly change to something like www.archive.org/anyoleshow-track1
Use the slightly changed URL to add to JDownloader and it will find everything

JDownloader will give many extra unnecessary links to download but the ones you will be interested in will load first and be toward the top of the list. It's pretty clear which are music related and which aren't. After they get loaded on the screen if it continues searching and adding unnecessary stuff, just hit the abort button and it will keep everything but stop searching (it will add literally any file including youtube video posts from comments in reviews)

In the program you can select just the top 20-30 or whatever that will be related and click download on those and clear the list of everything else.

It's a little more confusing to get down than I originally thought but really not too bad.
I can word this all out better soon.
I'll put together a better more thorough guide later.
Feel free to let me know if you need help figuring anything out.

Cheers.

EDIT:
Something wonderful I just discovered
On the page where it shows all the files, on the right you can select what kind of files you want to show to download and from which online hosts they come from
So you can uncheck the junk from youtube and mediafire and what not and uncheck video and other and document files and just have music files selected and it will make things much easier and be organized MUCH better

EDIT:
Also
Apparently not all shows save tracks in their own folder
So be careful if you download multiple shows at once
Alternatively you could just set specific downloads to specific pre-made folders on your own rather than after they download
But I'd recommend just doing one at a time and being sure they get organized properly rather than mixed together at least until getting this all figured out better
ALTHOUGH
With the amazing organization of archive files as is with the way everything is labeled, even if they do get mixed up it shouldn't be very hard to sort out

I've never tried or heard of Grateful Grabber
I looked into it, I don't use Chrome though nor do I like or trust Google so I'm gonna stick to this way personally.
Nice program to have regardless of how ya get yer fill of Dead.
I probably made this seem way more complicated than it really is, I was still figuring things out when I posted about it from excitement lol
I'm still planning on putting together a better guide for it soon.
