Re: Dead-A-Day: On This Day in GD-Land
We'd be remiss to recognize this show today. 7/9/95 Soldier Field, Chicago.
This is a personal favorite of mine for the implications behind it a month later. In particular, Jer mumbles the NY to SF lyric to get to "All I want is one to take me home." I literally just got chills writing that.
Edit to add: I've long heard detractors of the shows in the 90s. I get why. I do. However, there was a crispness to Jer's guitar during those years in the ballads like So Many Roads, Stella Blue, and SOTM that cut through the silent air unlike any sound he ever made. The depth he brought in those years, because of the health and stress that people cite when talking poorly about 90s shows, added an entirely different dimension to the music.

Listen to the river sing sweet songs, to rock my soul.

When I think of best DeadCo shows, 7/9/16 at Alpine is definitely in the top 5. One of the best performances of Hard Rain, for sure.

Nice little nugget from 20 years ago today at Alpine: 7/11/98 The Other Ones! Dark Star opens the set, the band finishes it up later with the Stephen 11 Lovelight to close! Who remembers this? Anyone? Bueller?
