Setlist Dead & Company Riverbend Music Center, Cincinnati 6/22/22

Post by SunshineSue » Wed Jun 22, 2022 10:41 am

Tonight Dead & Company continue their tour of the Midwest with a stop at one of my sentimental favorites, Riverbend Music Center in Cincinnati. It's a beautiful venue with a lovely view of the Ohio River right behind the stage, so it's just calling out for more river songs from the guys. Showtime is our earliest yet, 7 pm EDT. So get ready for a lovely summer night on the water with some great music! :dance

The inside of Riverbend is really cool, the roof beams are big pieces of lumber, and it feels more like a lean to instead of a steel cage. :sunshine

It's so nice in there! And I love how you can see bits of the river behind the stage, or at least that's how I remember it. Plus in '85, I sat behind and traded phone numbers at Riverbend with the guy I'd met briefly at Alpine the previous show, who's upstairs right now. It was a good tour!! :D

And as of about an hour ago, my AC is running again, phew! First world problem solved relatively quickly! :jumpclap

OK, I admit it. I don't understand the significance, if any, of the flying pig as it relates to Cincinnati. :think

Yes you can see the river and I remember distinctly seeing a big ship sailing behind the stage during the second set when I was there with Donna in 1985. :woo

Pioneer pig stickers established the pork-packing industry as an early building block of Cincinnati’s prosperity in the mid to late 1800s.

In the years after, the business of bacon, salt pork and lard migrated on to other venues. Yet a legacy of dancing pigs and flying swine lingered on in Cincinnati and the Queen City has remained, as well, they still call the place “Porkopolis.”

The gift shops at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) are filled with flying pig T-shirts, snow globes, mugs, shot glasses, and more, all of which sell briskly.
