Well, ok, Boys & Girls: Chuckster here at the Wheel driving the Setlist Bus for Dead & Company’s 2019 Fall Fun Run Show #1 at “Historic” Nassau Coliseum.
The Grateful Dead played a generous total of 42 shows at this venue beginning all the way back in 1973, when they played a notable total of 5 shows at the Coliseum that year, kicking off both their Spring Tour with 3 shows there (3/15,16 & 19), and then coming back in September to also kick off their Fall Tour with 2 more shows at the venue (9/7 & 9/8).
Their stops at the venue were always “multi-night” runs, culminating with whopping 5-night “mini-residencies” as part of their Spring Tours in 1993 (3/31, 4/1, 4/2; 4/4, 4/5) and 1994 (3/23-25; & 3/27-28), respectively. Such were some of their performances at Nassau Coliseum that no less than 3 Official Live Recording releases have been culled from them: Dick’s Picks Vol.13 (1999) from 5/6/81, Go To Nassau (2002), featured the 5/15 & 5/16, 1980 shows; and “Wake Up To Find Out”(2014), the entire 3/29/1990 Nassau show of perhaps the most celebrated “Special Guest” appearance in GD history when Branford Marsalis joined in for Birdsong and then stayed for the entire 2nd Set.
