DeadCo Has Now Sold Over 2,000,000 Tickets

Post by SunshineSue » Fri Jul 19, 2019 12:41 pm

The boys sure did well this tour, even beat out Sir Paul and Ariane Grande. So much for people losing interest!

Dead & Company Surpass $200 Million, 2 Million Tickets Sold With Biggest Tour Yet

Four years after coming together, the ensemble known as Dead & Company are going stronger than ever, atop the Hot Tours tally (see below) dated July 20, 2019. According to figures reported to Billboard Boxscore, the group added $29.8 million to its 2019 tour total with new reports for 12 shows. In all, the summer trek grossed $40.9 million and sold 486,917 tickets.

Not only does the tour top this week’s recap, Dead & Company also reign over the Current Boxscore chart with a double-header home run at Chicago’s Wrigley Field. The June 14-15 engagement grossed $7.1 million and sold 72,851 tickets.

Those earnings improve upon the band’s last performance at the same venue, when they grossed $6.4 million on June 30-July 1, 2017 (that engagement was previously Dead & Company’s biggest earner ever -- in between tours, the group notched the biggest win of their career with a four-day destination event in Mexico, which tops the 2019 mid-year Top Boxscores chart).
The second biggest engagement of the tour, a July 5-6 stint at Boulder’s Folsom Field, grossed $6.5 million, up more than 20% from its engagement at the same venue last summer.

The tour featured a fair mix of amphitheaters and stadiums, ranging in capacity from the 13,127 of Dos Equis Pavilion in Dallas to 43,779 of the Boston-area Gillette Stadium. In total, the band played six stadium shows and 13 dates in amphitheaters.

The final $40 million-plus total makes it Dead & Company’s biggest tour yet, up 16% over 2018’s $35.2 million gross. Having toured consistently since its 2015 debut, the band has grossed $205.5 million and sold 2.18 million tickets across 120 reported shows.

Hopefully this wont bother anyone here by me saying this: On the one hand, good for them. On the other hand, I remember when things got big before, that didnt work out so well. I also generally find that when the masses like something I want to walk the other way.

Times have changed though, there are more people then ever before to interest in this music, so I'll just keep an open mind. Its really impressive that they made something that brings out the people again.

That said: since everyone on that stage is earning well, can we get a break on these Nugs streaming prices? People will still show up, it isnt going to cut into ticket sales, no way. Drop that price around $10 and Nugs can quit worrying so much about monitoring for people sharing.

Even better, could they just provide a live audio feed for free, and charge for the video? I dont really need to see anything, never really watched the band back in the day anyways. I know it isnt going to happen, but it would be nice.
