Gretchen, my rescue dog

Post by CountingStars » Tue Nov 22, 2016 7:27 pm

I said good-bye to my awesome dog Casey 2 years ago. It was a long time to heal. I've been ready for a new dog, and have been waiting for the right rescue to come through the vet practice where I work. Somehow, you just know.

Please welcome Gretchen. :welcomefire

Her owners are divorcing. Mom had custody, and was not feeding her, apparently she was tied to a tree. There may be mental health issue. The divorce got nasty, and Dad hit her in the face with a baseball bat. She was found in the woods by hunters. Broken jaw, emaciated, dehydrated, low temperature, cuts on her legs and body. She had to be stabilized for a little before anesthesia and surgery to pin her jaw, she was in really bad shape.

Her jaw is healing very nicely. She is gaining weight, slowly (which is not a bad thing). Her coat looks better. She is such a sweetheart. Very playful. Getting good quality food, and good sleep. :D :clap :bigheart :bigheart :bigheart

She isn't very head shy, nor timid with strangers, male or female, so the actual abuse could not have been longstanding. (her tail is bent into a permanent L shape, I don't have the history on that injury).

The first picture is pre-surgery.
