6/9/69 is the night of Phil's and Hunter's massive doses. Phil discusses it in searching and it is discussed at length here, especially Hunter's trip which led to Jerry and him writing China Doll and Black Peter at Owsley's house the next morning. https://www.dead.net/deadcast/workingma ... lack-peter

So, is there a difference between an East coast show and a California show? I think so, clearly a different vibe altogether imo

Hands down without a doubt. About 95% of my GD shows were west of the Mississippi with the bulk of them being in California and Colorado. A very noticeable difference on all levels. Freakin' apples and oranges as far as my experiences.
Shakedown Street, 6/25; Boulder...First indoor show since Mardi Gras of last year
DSO, 7/5; Red Rocks
Start Making Sense (Talking Heads ), 10/8; Boulder

Because something is happening here but you don't know what it is.

Pre show the difference is palpable, the upstate New York crowd is very intense, animated and impatient for the show to begin and Cali shows are folks hanging out socializing and laid back and when the music starts they are jolted.
