Arlo and Alice's 50th Anniversary Tour

Post by SunshineSue » Mon Nov 09, 2015 11:23 pm

2015 is the 50th anniversary of the true events commemorated in the song Alice's Restaurant, and Arlo Guthrie and his band are touring to celebrate. We saw the Ann Arbor show tonight and it was absolutely wonderful from start to finish! His daughter, Sara Lee, performed for the first part of the first set, and she can sing and tell stories as well as her dad. I fell in love with both her voice and her personality immediately! Arlo's son Abe was also in the band, playing keys. They did 2 sets, and every single song was wonderful, including the classics like Coming into Los Angeles, City of New Orleans and of course Alice's Restaurant. They had video from the movie playing behind Arlo while he played Alice, and we all sang, which was fun. Such a contrast between his 1969 baby face and the gray haired man on stage now! Turns out that both Officer Obie and the blind judge in the movie weren't actors, they were the real people from the story. I guess I never realized how much of that song was actually true, but it was indeed another case of American blind justice!!

All in all, one of the best shows I've seen in a long time. You can't help but walk out with a big smile on your face! Don't miss it if he's anywhere near you on this tour!! :clap

I pity the souls who never get to hear Arlo. His stories and songs are so human, and humorous. It’s one of those rare shows that everyone leaves with a smile, and a little more love for their fellow human beings.

One anecdote was his recent chance encounter with Wavy Gravy, “the announcer at Woodstock”. “We hugged and sat down to reminisce, but neither of us could remember anything.”

THAT is pure Arlo. Love him, love his kids, and love his Dad. And after his warm-hearted and sweet tribute to his late wife, we love her as well.

I got to see Arlo at Buckeye Lake back in May 2000.
He was part of the Spring Hookahville line - up that year.

Saturday was Deep Banana Blackout > Ratdog > Ekoostik Hookah

And Sunday was Arlo > David Grisman Quintet > Ekoostik Hookah

Arlo's daughter sat in with her dad.
He's a great peformer and storyteller, I'd love to catch him again sometime !
wake up to find out that you are the eyes of the world
