I used to draw pictures of the Frankenstein monster over and over, endlessly, in different positions... It touched something, I don't know what, something very strong.. . It might have been the thing of a dead thing brought to life. Frankenstein's monster is, after all, a drive to reanimate, or to produce life, and it hit me in that archetypal center.

The aim of life is to live, and to live means to be aware, joyously, drunkenly, serenely, divinely aware.

We're born alone, we live alone, we die alone.
Only through our love and friendship can we create the illusion for the moment that we're not alone.

Even with all our technology and the inventions that make modern life so much easier than it once was, it takes just one big natural disaster to wipe all that away and remind us that, here on Earth, we're still at the mercy of nature.

“You are an explorer, and you represent our species, and the greatest good you can do is to bring back a new idea, because our world is endangered by the absence of good ideas. Our world is in crisis because of the absence of consciousness.”

I hope it is true that a man can die and yet not only live in others but give them life,
and not only life, but that great consciousness of life.

What is the best music is impossible to define. Just because it's played by a virtuoso player, doesn't mean it's great music. It might not reflect the soul of a people, which is really my criteria for great music.

The Grateful Dead, they're my best friends. Their message of hope, peace, love, teamwork, creativity, imagination, celebration, the dance, the vision, the purpose, the passion all of the things I believe in makes me the luckiest Deadhead in the world.

--Bill Walton
